Orville Clark Jr. This 14 year old prodigy is has been climbing for 6 years, and is posed to take the sport climbing world by storm. Orville and his tight-knit family live in Salt Lake City, UT so Little Cottonwood Canyon is his home turf. But Orville lists his favorite climbing spots at Joe's Valley and Pirate's Cove near Corona Del Mar. His goals for next year include getting to the finals at Nationals in both Bouldering and Sport Climbing. Orville's favorite climbing story though has nothing to do with competition though, just connecting with other climbers: "My dad was teaching study abroad classes and one year I came with him. We went to a little dinky town outside of Florence to see some art. My dad had heard about an old quarry that people had bolted, so we went to go check it out. There were a couple of people climbing, and one of them started talking to my dad (in Italian) and it came up that I loved to climb. Then the man let me borrow his harness and other gear and his partner top-rope belayed me. This was before I started sport climbing, so I was still pretty nervous about heights. Their encouraging voices helped me climb. Even though we didn't speak the same language, and I wasn't from around there, they still cheered me on." Orville and his brother Mattes also compete in chili and salsa cook offs.
